Dentistry That
Always Moves Forward

Dental technology is constantly evolving, and in order to provide the best care possible, a dentist has to constantly update their knowledge as well as their dental office. Thankfully, that’s exactly what Dr. Cyriac has done over the years. Whenever you come to York Smile Care, you can trust that the latest instruments are being used to make your experience as comfortable and productive as possible, and you can learn more about just a few of them below.

TMJ/TMD
Treatment

Man in need of T M J therapy holding jaw in pain

About 10 million Americans suffer from chronic jaw and head pain due to TMJ (temporomandibular joint) problems, which is your jaw joint. TMJ disorders (TMDs) are often the result of an uneven bite or teeth grinding, and Dr. Cyriac can treat both issues directly to provide patients the lasting relief they deserve. He can rebalance the bite with occlusal adjustments or provide custom-made splints that prevent grinding and help aching muscles heal while someone sleeps.

Intraoral
Camera

Cameras are becoming smaller and more powerful each passing year, so much so that Dr. Cyriac can now use one that’s just slightly bigger than a popsicle stick to take high-resolution images of your teeth and gums during your checkups. This allows him to see much more compared to a typical visual exam, plus he can show these images to you and better explain any issues he might see and go over your treatment options. Now, you can trust that you and your dentist are always on the same page.

Digital
X-Rays

Many patients have concerns about dental X-rays, but thankfully, digital X-rays quickly put those worries to rest. In addition to emitting 90% LESS radiation compared to traditional film, they also capture sharper images and can be developed in seconds, saving valuable time during your appointments. They can be easily stored and referenced as well, making it simple for us to keep track of someone’s long-term care. They make filing insurance claims extremely quick, too.

CT/Cone Beam
Scanner

C T cone beam digital x-ray scanner

Our CT/cone beam scanner allows us to take a CAT scan of only a patient’s head, creating a full 3D model of the teeth, jaw, and adjacent oral structures. This image shows much more detail compared to your typical X-ray, and it allows Dr. Cyriac to come up with extremely precise treatment plans for more involved procedures (particularly dental implant placement). The scanner also reveals the location of sensitive facial nerves so they can be avoided, leading to a more comfortable treatment and shorter recovery.

Soft Tissue
Laser Dentistry

Patient receiving soft tissue laser treatment

In the past, if a patient had advanced gum disease, the best way to treat it involved a minor surgery in which the gum tissue was pulled away from the teeth, allowing for the removal of harmful bacteria and debris. Thankfully, laser dentistry now allows Dr. Cyriac to provide this type of care much less invasively. With the laser, he can thoroughly remove bacteria from deep below the gum line without using any incisions or sutures. In fact, the treatment is so gentle that most patients don’t even need local anesthetic!

The
Wand

The Wand system

No one likes the thought of having to get a shot at the dentist, but this is often the best way to administer local anesthetic to ensure a treatment is 100% painless. Now, with The Wand™, we have a better way. This device applies a topical anesthetic to the area to numb it, and then the rest is administered so slowly and evenly that a patient basically feels nothing right before they feel nothing!
